Established more than 30 years ago, the internationally renowned Center for Motion Analysis at Connecticut Children's is a full-service laboratory offering a wide range of diagnostic services for the evaluation of children with complex neuromuscular, acquired or congenital disorders that affect walking. In addition, the center is a thriving research hub that pushes the boundaries of motion analysis for the understanding of pathologic movement disorders as well as more routine actions, such as running and throwing. The Center for Motion Analysis uses leading-edge technology to identify muscle activity, movements and other mobility nuances that are unique to each child. With this information, more accurate treatments for abnormal movements can be put in place and treatment outcomes can be objectively assessed."

Human movement is extremely complex, requiring precise coordination of our muscles, bones and nerves. Gillette's research in the biomechanics of human movement focuses on understanding the basic principles of movements such as walking, running, and using our arms and hands.
We study the fundamental ways the body coordinates forces produced by muscles—acting on bones as levers—to produce smooth, stable, and efficient motions. Basic knowledge helps us recognize how various orthopedic, neurological, and muscular conditions can impede motions critical to daily living. This research also helps us design optimal treatments aimed at the source of the problem, rather than just manage symptoms."
- Hugh Williamson Gait Analysis Laboratory - Austrália (update: 2018) "The Hugh Williamson Gait Analysis Laboratory is a world leader in the analysis of walking disorders in children. Using state of the art equipment our highly specialist staff are able to determine why children walk the way they do. Knowing this it is then possible to plan treatment individually for each child."

- Mayo Clinic - Motion Analysis Laboratory "Motion analysis is the study of human movement. Directed by Kenton R. Kaufman, Ph.D., P.E., the Motion Analysis Laboratory at Mayo Clinic offers state-of-the-art treatment planning for patients with movement difficulties, aids in documenting results of therapeutic procedures and conducts research on future clinical applications of human movement analysis. Modern motion analysis techniques, such as those used in the Motion Analysis Laboratory, can evaluate all aspects of a patient's gait at one time, allowing simultaneous treatment of multiple issues. A key benefit of motion analysis is improved clinical decision-making. Using objective data gathered in the Motion Analysis Laboratory, clinicians can determine the most appropriate surgery or other treatment to correct each person's gait issue or other movement disorder. Depending on the condition, clinicians may consider several surgical and nonsurgical therapies. Surgical treatments include a variety of procedures to lengthen specific muscles, transfer tendons or correct bony irregularities through the use of osteotomies. Nonsurgical recommendations include physical therapy, bracing or gait aids."
- Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) - Biomechatronics Group "Towards the end of disability The Biomechatronics Group is one of over 20 research groups within the MIT Media Lab. The mission of our group is two fold. First, we seek to restore function to individuals who have impaired mobility due to trauma or disease through research and development. Second, we develop technologies that augment human performance beyond what nature intends. These objectives are met by combining the scientific discipline of organismal and cellular neuromechanics with the technological discipline of bionic device design. Our research staff and students include biomechanists, neuroscientists, and biophysicists as well as electrical, mechanical, biomedical, and tissue engineers."
- Northwestern University Prosthetics Research Program "The Northwestern University Prosthetics-Orthotics Center (NUPOC) has collaborative education and research interactions with faculty throughout Northwestern University (including our affiliation with Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation); and with other Feinberg-affiliated institutions. - Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children- (update: 2018) "The Movement Science Laboratory at Scottish Rite Hospital is an integral part of the treatment of our patients. The team uses leading-edge technology to evaluate and identify movement to help our doctors make decisions about the best treatment options for the child. The Movement Science Lab (MSL), also known as the Gait Lab, has two main focuses: clinical evaluations and research. Clinically, our MSL team works directly with our orthopedic doctors to help provide options to determine the best course of treatment for each child. Doctors are provided with a detailed analysis of their patient’s walking ability, including how the joints move, when the muscles are firing and the power generated through their legs. The other focus of the Movement Science Lab is research. The research conducted allows the team to better understand and measure how well the treatment plans our doctors provide to our patients improve their function. The lab will see patients before and after treatment in order to measure the effectiveness of the care. The purpose of the research is to compare patient outcomes following different surgical procedures, assess a specific treatment across varying types of patients, define the improvements of the child’s conditions following physical and occupational therapy, and evaluate the effectiveness of various orthoses and prosthetic limb components. The research continues to educate our staff and allows the team to provide the best possible care to each patient."
